Livonia Police Department Citizen Police Academy 2026

The Livonia Police Department is proud to announce our 2026 Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy will begin on Tuesday February 24th, 2026, and meet every Tuesday through May 5th, 2026.

What it is:

Police and criminal justice personnel will offer residents and business owners insight into police operations, their duties and how the Livonia Police Department serves its community. The purpose of this program is to allow attendees to become familiar with the police department through classroom instruction and practical experiences. It is our intent to share public awareness about the police department and to increase police / community engagement through this educational process.  Classes will run from 6:00pm to 9:30pm.

Location:

Classes will be held at the Livonia Police Department Training Room located at 15050 Farmington Road, Livonia. The curriculum for the academy will include a facility tour and presentations of the following:

Topics:

  • Patrol / Dispatch / Detective / Narcotic / and Traffic Bureaus
  • Crime Scene Unit including the AFIS system & Digital Forensics
  • Western Wayne Special Operations Team & Mobile Field Force Team
  • The Criminal Justice System
  • VirTra Firearm Training Simulator / Use of Force Policy / Procedures
  • Firearms Training (Optional)
  • Police Technologies
  • Office of Professional Standards
  • Community Engagement
  • Emergency Preparedness including civilian opportunities with CERT and Reserves
  • Ride along with a patrol officer
  • Crisis Intervention Team and our Crisis Clinician
  • Meet our two canines – Cooper and Kasimir

Who may apply:

To apply for the Citizen Police Academy, you must be a minimum 18 years of age, and live or work in the City of Livonia. Eligible applicants will be subject to a background investigation before consideration for the program and selected based upon a successful background investigation. All participants are required to sign a Release of All Claim Waiver Form.

How to Apply:

There is no cost to attend this program. Interested participants may obtain an application and waiver form from the department’s website at www.livoniapd.com. All applications / forms must be returned by email or in person to the Livonia Police Department to the Office of Professional Standards on or before Wednesday, January 21, 2026. Class size is limited. If there are more applicants than seats, all interested parties who pass the background check will be placed in a lottery for selection.
