Training Unit

The Livonia Police Department’s Training Unit is assigned as a unit within the Support Services Division. One Sergeant staffs the Training Unit. Reporting to the Sergeant is the Rangemaster, who is in charge of the firearms and taser training.
The Training Unit is responsible for in-service training within the Police Department. Officers are required to complete 60 hours of annual training in topics like Patrol Stops, CPR, Legal Update, Subject Control, Rapid Deployment, Precision Driving, etc. In addition to this training, officers are required to qualify twice a year with their firearms. Eligible officers are sent off-site to participate in training at other venues, which could be offering a specialized subject, or general law enforcement topic.
Additionally, the Training Unit is responsible for recruitment and coordinating the hiring process with the City of Livonia Civil Service Department.
