The Livonia Police Department is hiring Police Service Aides (PSA) and Police Officers! For an individual pursuing a law enforcement career, a Police Service Aide is a great opportunity to learn more about the profession and prepare yourself to further your career. Our PSA’s work at the inside positions of the Police Department by taking police reports answering phone calls and working our jail. While working as a PSA, your education will be paid for by the City of Livonia. Qualified PSA’s will be sponsored to attend the Wayne County Regional Police Academy to become a Police Officer subject to the operating needs of the department. A qualified PSA will have all academy expenses paid and receive their salary while in the academy! You must take and pass the MCOLES physical agility test to qualify for the position.
How to Apply to be a Police Service Aide:
Step 1:
- Take the MCOLES Physical Fitness Test
- Physical Fitness testing dates are available here.
- You MUST bring all required items listed in order to participate in the test.
- Completed MCOLES Pre-Enrollment Physical Fitness Examination Health Screening Form (Complete this in advance with a Physician/Physician’s Assistant)
- Gym shorts and T-shirt or sweat suit
- Gym shoes
- Athletic supporter (males), or bra (females)
- Driver’s license or other government-issued photo ID
Step 2:
- Fill out the Police Service Aide Job Application for the City of Livonia.
- You must create an account to complete the application.
- Upload your physical fitness test results with your application.

How to Apply to be a Police Officer:
- Be a Certified Michigan Police Officer; OR
- Be currently enrolled in an MCOLES approved training academy and certifiable by date of hire; OR
- Certifiable as a Police Officer in the State of Michigan, subject to verification or re-verification by a Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards (MCOLES) approved training academy.
